What is Variable Tuition?

Variable Tuition is a tuition rate that is adjusted to meet the unique financial position of each family.

Used by many private schools, colleges, and universities, this program allows families to apply for reduced tuition that is right for their financial situation. It can make a Chapel Hill Academy education affordable to many qualified students who could not otherwise join our school community. Variable Tuition does not impact Student Fees.

How does Variable Tuition work?

All families (current or new) with students in Junior Kindergarten through 8th grade may apply for Variable Tuition (financial assistance) as a way to explore options for managing tuition at CHA.

This process is handled through a third-party resource, FACTS, which assesses family financial details such as income, assets, debt, family size and other expenses when determining the tuition amount for each family. Using an external resource gives families confidentiality while at the same time providing the school with third-party objectivity.

Year-after-year Considerations

Families applying for Variable Tuition (financial assistance) are required to re-apply annually. If you do not qualify for one year you are still welcome to apply the following year.

Other consideration include:

  • As a rule, an application for Variable Tuition (financial assistance) for an upcoming school year will not be considered until the previous year’s account has been paid in full. Exceptions may be made where hardship has come unexpectedly. Prior authorization by Chapel Hill Academy is required.
  • Students receiving Variable Tuition (financial assistance) must remain in good standing academically, behaviorally, and spiritually for Variable Tuition (financial assistance) to continue.
  • Variable Tuition (financial assistance) is granted for one school year and is not automatically renewable. Applications must be submitted each year for consideration.
  • Adjustments to tuition balances and monthly payments due to financial aid or other awards will be made directly by the school. You will be notified of these changes.

How do I apply for Variable Tuition?
