Praise the Lord.
Praise God in his sanctuary;
praise him in his mighty heavens.
Praise him for his acts of power;
praise him for his surpassing greatness.
Praise him with the sounding of the trumpet,
praise him with the harp and lyre,
praise him with timbrel and dancing,
praise him with the strings and pipe,
praise him with the clash of cymbals,
praise him with resounding cymbals.
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord.
~ Psalm 150 (NIV)

web_fine_arts_12_webMan was created to bring glory to God, and our band program encourages students to develop their musical gifts bestowed on them by their Creator for His honor. Starting in 4th grade, students may audition with our Band Director, George Runyan, and if they demonstrate a basic skill level, they will be invited to join the CHA band. On occasion, 3rd grade students showing advanced proficiency are invited to join.

The CHA band has several opportunities to showcase their talents throughout the year. Both Christmas and Spring musical events are preceded by a short band concert. In addition, students are given the opportunity to participate in an adjudicative contest both as soloists and as an entire band in the spring. Participation in school events and one grand “Band Festival” in May round out the band calendar. The success of our band program is evidenced through the annual achievements of our band students with regular selection for MBDA Honors Bands and top ratings awarded to the soloists and the band as a whole during our adjudicative contests.

Band practices are held in the morning three days a week as an extra-curricular, before-school option. Jr. High students may take band for credit and elect to receive a grade and acknowledgement of participation on their report card. Band fees are billed directly to families’ TADS accounts.

Private lessons by our band director are available; lesson times and payments are arranged directly with him.
