Passion for Christ. Education for Life.
Since 1970 Chapel Hill Academy has been partnering with our community and coming alongside Christian families just like yours to support in the spiritual and academic training of our students!
To glorify God and assist families by providing a Christ-centered education which inspires and enables students to pursue spiritual maturity and academic excellence.
Relying on God’s strength and provision, Chapel Hill Academy seeks to nurture Christ-like attitudes, provide excellence, and promote a Christ-centered environment.
We believe the Bible to be the inspired, the only infallible, authoritative Word of God, inerrant in the original manuscripts. We believe the inerrancy of Scripture embraces not only religious truth, but also the Bible’s scientific, historical and literary features.
We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son and Holy Spirit.
We believe that creation was an act of God and not the result of evolution, theistic or otherwise. (This has no reference to changes within the species as defined in Genesis 1.)
We believe in the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ, in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death through His shed blood, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father and in His personal return in power and glory.
We believe that for the salvation of lost, sinful men, regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.
We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by whose indwelling the Christian is enabled to live a Godly life.
We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they who are saved unto the resurrection of life, and they who are lost to the resurrection of damnation.
We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ.
We Seek to Honor Christ
At Chapel Hill Academy, a relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to obey God’s Word is at the very center of the mission. This promise to God and to each other is what binds us together as followers of Jesus Christ. We believe that it is our calling to live under the sovereignty of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, to study and live by His Word, and to teach children to become disciples of Christ. We believe it is our privilege and responsibility to live and work in this school community with those who share this belief to the glory of God. The mission of CHA is to glorify God and assist families by providing a Christ-centered education which inspires and enables students to pursue spiritual maturity and academic excellence. With this in mind, and to uphold our Core Values, Statement of Faith, Vision, Philosophy of Education, and the Aims and Objectives of Chapel Hill Academy, this Community Covenant is designed to provide biblically based guidelines and expectations of all who are affiliated with this Christian school community.
We desire to live like Jesus Christ who was full of grace and truth (John 1:14). We affirm that God, in His mercy, spares us from the eternal separation from God that we deserve, and in His grace, He blesses us with what we do not deserve.
We Seek to Uphold a Christian Community
At Chapel Hill Academy, we will strive to love our God and each other as He loves us (Matt. 22:37–39): with kindness, mercy, faithfulness, gentleness, grace, patience, and perseverance (Gal. 5:22, 23; Jas. 1:4). We will love what is good and reject what is corrupt (Rom. 12:9). We will seek righteousness and justice. We are willing to serve one another. We will encourage and support each other (Heb. 10:24). We value the passionate exchange of ideas, but we will strive to resolve conflicts with humility, kindness, mutual respect, and Christian love (Col. 3:13, 14). We are to be faithful witnesses of the Gospel (1 Pet. 3:15), people of integrity who practice good works and self-control, and who focus on prayer, joy, and thanksgiving (1 Thess. 5:15–22).
We know that all of us are sinners (Romans 3:23) and, as a result, need God’s forgiveness. Furthermore, we affirm that Jesus Christ’s death on the cross completely paid for our sins, and His resurrection from the dead proved His victory over sin and death (I Corinthians 15:55-58; Romans 3:21-26). We also affirm that since Christians have not only been assured of forgiveness, but are dead to sin, we should not continue in sin. We who have died to sin should live in it no longer (Romans 6:1-2). Rather, because of God’s great love in sending Jesus to die for us, we ought to live for Him (Romans 5:8). We have been set free from a life of sin, we are no longer slaves to sin, and we are called to not make a practice of sinning (Romans 6:12-13; Galatians 5:1).
It is our belief that many in the world today will knowingly or unknowingly exchange the truth of God for a lie (II Timothy 4:2-4). We need to be on guard to live in a way that reveals redemptive truth. Rather than being conformed to this world, we are called to be transformed by the renewing of our mind (Romans 12:1-2). Our mind is renewed when we are sanctified by the Holy Spirit and live according to God’s Word, the Bible. When we sin, we are called to ask for forgiveness (I John 1:9), to repent from our sins and no longer walk in them (Acts 3:19). We are called to live holy lives because He is holy (I Peter 1:14-16). Therefore, because God’s great love for us was demonstrated by Jesus when He died for us on the cross (Romans 5:8), we strive to pursue a life that honors and glorifies Him (I Peter 2:24).
Leaders
As leaders of Chapel Hill Academy, whether serving as a school leader, administrator, Board member, committee member, or volunteer leader, we will be prayerful in our decisions, receptive to the needs of the community, dedicated to the present and future welfare of Chapel Hill Academy. We will be good stewards of the responsibilities that have been temporarily placed in our care, seek God’s wisdom with humility and a servant’s heart, and pursue excellence with compassion and Christian character (Col. 3:12).
Teachers
As teachers, we dedicate ourselves to our students and to each other in the community for the glory of God and the relentless and joyous pursuit of a deeper relationship with Him. We will strive for excellence as teachers and as scholars by actively seeking means to continue growing spiritually and professionally. We will be good stewards of the responsibilities of our positions, building up and encouraging those around us (1 Thess. 5:11), and we will be faithful mentors and instructors to the students whom God has temporarily entrusted to our care.
Employees
As employees of Chapel Hill Academy, we agree to put Jesus Christ at the center of our lives and work. We agree to abide by the integrity, character, and biblical standards contained in our Employment Handbook. We will strive to live and work together dedicated to God and to each other for the betterment of His Kingdom, His people, and the school community. We will respect each other: our peers, our students, our listeners, our authorities, and those under our authority (1 Pet. 2:17), knowing that Christ has brought us together to further His plan for His glory. We will value individuality and work for commonality (Phil. 2:2). We voluntarily abstain from certain activities that might draw us or others away from God (1 Cor. 8:9–13; Gal. 5:19–21), particularly on behalf of those students and listeners who are new to the knowledge of Christ and to parents who have placed their children in our environment and in our care.
Family Members
As long as we enjoy the privilege of this school-family partnership, we will strive to represent the Chapel Hill Academy community with integrity. We acknowledge that in the event of a disagreement we will follow the principle of Matthew 18 and will not succumb to gossip or slander in order to remain honorable to God and to protect the Christian school community. We will remember that above all, we are ambassadors of Christ and His Kingdom. As parents, we will respect the discipline of the school, assume positive intent on the part of school authority, and understand that children may need correction and recognize the training opportunity that Christian guidance provides. We will strive to build a disciplined, Christ centered home aligned with the principles set forth in this document. We also recognize that for the school to thrive, volunteerism is vital; therefore, we commit to assist Chapel Hill Academy in specific initiatives and needs that will bring the community together and promote the function of the school ministry.
Chapel Hill Academy Community Pledge
As Christians, we live in a changing world with the desire to adhere to Truth and the Will of God. We believe that sin causes separation from God, and Christians are called to make every effort to turn away from all sinful behaviors. We specifically address social issues to further clarify what we believe is faithful obedience to God’s wisdom and direction according to scripture and established for our good. It is important that we understand sin because we cannot fully understand God’s mercy, grace, and our need for salvation until we first understand our sinful condition and need for the saving Grace of Jesus Christ. Therefore, as a Christian Community under the sovereignty of God, we pledge ourselves as a Christian community that follows the truth of Scripture…
We pledge to set ourselves apart as a community of believers for the glory of God. We will hold ourselves accountable to each other, so that, with the sustaining support of the Holy Spirit, we will stand together against the dangers of a broken world and our sinful nature.
We pledge to stand together against all that the Bible states contrary to God’s character and guidance: greed and materialism, dishonesty, prejudice, social injustice, impurity and corruption, casual and disrespectful use of the name of the Lord, drunkenness, violent behavior, pride and discord, immodesty in dress or behavior, slander, gossip, vulgar or obscene language, and any activities that are illegal (Col. 3:5–11; Gal. 5: 19–21; 1 Cor. 6:9–10). We also pledge to refrain from publicizing private information, personal agendas, organizational or personal concerns, or negative comments toward the school or individuals via face-to-face gossip, social media, GroupMe, Teams Communities, and group texts or email chains. (Titus 3:1, 2; Lev. 19:16; 1 Tim. 5:13)
We pledge to uphold only biblical marriage and its sanctity (Ephesians 5, Hebrews 13:4). We define biblical marriage as a covenant between one man and one woman (Gen. 2:21-24; Matt. 19:4-5). We believe in honoring the holy intimate union within the context of that covenant (Hebrews 13:4) and take comfort in God’s grace that He redeems and restores through life in Christ. As followers of Christ, we turn from immorality in its many forms including but not limited to pornography, pre-marital intimacy, adultery, same-sex romantic intimacy, and all lifestyles, whether legalized or illegal, that veer from God’s directive of what is best for us and outlined for our good (Col. 3:5; Gal. 5:19-21; Rom. 1:21-27; 1 Cor. 6:9- 10; Rom. 12:1-2).
We believe the sanctity and protection of all human life, including life of the unborn from the moment of conception. We believe that only God has the power and authority to take innocent life in His ordained timing (Jer. 1:5; Ps. 139:13-16; Exod. 20:13).
We believe we are created by God in His image as two distinct genders: male and female (Gen. 1:26-28; Matt. 19:4-5). We believe that each person glorifies God and affirms His infinite holiness and wisdom by living in alignment with his or her gender at birth. While we acknowledge there may be confusion and brokenness for some individuals in this area, we do not affirm or support transgender identity or expression. Instead, we place our faith and trust in God’s redemptive plan.
We pledge to abide by the Staff, Student and Parent Handbooks for specific guidelines, information on special provisions, policies and procedures including all student life matters.
Our Covenant to One Another
This document is a formal Statement of Commitment for all associated with Chapel Hill Academy. I understand that, upon enrollment, employment, or acceptance of a volunteer position at CHA, I will be a productive member of this community, and I will choose to live by the principles and expectations contained in this Covenant. I also commit to following the Chapel Hill Academy guiding principles for resolution when concerns arise. I understand that failure to live within these guidelines can result in denial of enrollment, dismissal, or termination of employment in order to preserve and uphold the Chapel Hill Academy Mission, Vision, Statement of Faith, Philosophy of Christian Education, Core Values, official school policies.
Final Authority
This covenant does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself is the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind. The Bible is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Chapel Hill Academy’s faith, values, practice, discipline, and policy, our CHA Board of Directors is the organization’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.
It is understood that not every student or family will always agree with CHA’s perspective of education and what it means to live a life of faith and obedience to Jesus Christ. By enrolling, families agree to support the CHA Community Covenant and they are willfully participating in the ministry, mission, and vision of the school. They also agree to abide by the policies and expectations that are established.
By agreeing to the Chapel Hill Academy Community Covenant, and as an affiliate of this Christian school community, individuals agree to follow these guidelines with humility and integrity in order to experience the privileges and benefits of enrollment, employment, or volunteer participation that our ministry participants hope and expect to enjoy.
The educational philosophy of Chapel Hill Academy is based on a God-centered view of truth and man as presented in the Bible. Since God created and sustains all things through His Son, Jesus Christ, the universe and all life are dynamically related to God and have the purpose of glorifying Him. This is pointedly true of man who was made in God’s image, different in kind from all other creation, with the unique capacity to know and respond to God personally and voluntarily. Because man is a sinner by nature and choice, however, he cannot, in this condition, know or honor God in his life. He can do this only by being born again through receiving Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord, and thus be enabled to do God’s will, which is the ultimate purpose of his life.
The entire process of education is seen as a means used by the Holy Spirit to bring the student into closer fellowship with God, to help him become strong and mighty in the Spirit, to assist him in developing a Christian mind, to enable him to think God’s thoughts, to train him in Christ-likeness and to help the student demonstrate Christ-like character qualities so that he can fulfill God’s total purpose for his life personally and vocationally. He is taught the Bible so he may understand God as well as his own true nature and function as God’s image. He is developed and relates to God as a whole person, that is: spiritually, intellectually, physically, emotionally and socially. He is taught to see all truth as God’s truth and to integrate it with, and interpret it by, God’s word. He is educated as an individual, with his own unique abilities and personality, who learns to live and work with others at home, in the church and in a changing secular society. He interacts with and is taught by parent and teacher models who are themselves born again and have this perspective on life.
The authority for such an education comes both from God’s command that the student be taught to love God and place Him first in their lives and from the fact that parents are responsible for the total education and training of their student. At the parents’ request, the Christian school, along with the church, becomes a partner in giving this education. The Christian school serves the parents in fulfilling their responsibility of educating the student.
